I have the session and the hero5 black. biggest difference is the size. it is about 30 - 40 percent smaller then a gopro. it retains the native waterproofing like its bigger brother but it has no screen to live view or review footage after the fact (you'll have to review the footage thru your phone with gopro app, you can also do live view thru your the app as well). also it does not have a replaceable battery, That being said it would be great for recording fish. I would recommend a buoyant handle for it because it will 100% sink if dropped in the water.

After my experiences with both GoPro and some of these Chinese companies that are killing it (DJI, Insta360, Yi), i wholeheartedly would recommend the latter, not only for cost, but for how software is handled. Insta360 for example is leagues ahead of GoPro Fusion, night and day really, makes paying more for GoPro in some cases to be foolhardy.

That being said, this is still a good price for what it is, TU.

I've never owned a GoPro before. Can someone tell me the main differences between this and the more expensive models? I'm just looking for something to record some fishing catches in Canada. Can I power or recharge this model with an external battery? Thanks in advance!

I'm assuming this is the first Session? I have one and love it for attaching to my guitar while playing. Light and takes great video. It helps to use the Gopro app so you can see what the camera sees

This GoPro is about 4 years old and from their budget line. This will be a good toy camera for the kids with photo and video quality similar to a cellphone from 2 years ago. The current GoPro hero7 black and dji osmo action are light years ahead especially with very effective digital image stabilization.

Although the current generation is significantly more expensive ($350), if you're just going to own one of these, you should buy one worth keeping that can make video worth watching. Otherwise, these might only be good for "camera b" if you see yourself filming more action.

I have recharged with an external battery. Not sure about running it off one. Main differences are the shape (this is a cube) and the fact that Session models don't have removable batteries. This model does not have stabilization. The Hero5 Session does have stabilization.

While I agree with you, the cameras you mentioned are also light years ahead in price (300$+). This session GoPro is ok for the price. Just remember the battery isn't removeable so a battery pack would be great to keep it charged.

Is that connector on it HDMI or USB? If it's HDMI, does this do live camera output to HDMI without recording?

Is the Hero7 White fine for low light conditions, or basically ones without hard light?

If you knew anything at all about the Session line you would know that they were never intended to be budget line. These initially hit the market at a very high price.
