SanDisk 64GB Ultra Dual Drive m3.0 for Android Devices and Computers - microUSB, USB 3.0.

This seemed to be a really popular deal last time I posted for $11. Now it's dropped slightly lower. Shipped direct from Amazon.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This series, like a lot of other SanDisk flash drives, has the infamous "Read Only" bit random trigger issue. It would render your flash drive useless and it is not repairable. SanDisk knows of the issue but will not openly acknowledge it. There are hundreds of posts about it online and there is a several hundred reply deep thread on the company support forum where the only solution is replacement. They will send you a free replacement but will not guarantee data privacy or offer data recovery of the old one you send in. I have 4 of these. 3 died, one was dead within 30 minutes of first use. 2nd and 3rd died /locked up within 24 hours. This is NOT with heavy or abnormal use. I am a sys admin, it is not user error. I have 6 other (cheaper model - Cruzer Dial) SanDisk flash drives and 3 out of 6 dead. Remaining 3 have repeat read/write errors (and random data loss) on any machine they are plugged into which usually manifests as ridiculously slow data transfers, no rhyme or reason.

SanDisk is garbage and they know they are pushing out garbage products. Avoid this junk brand. I would take PNY, Patriot, Samsung and Corsair over this bottom barrel garbage any day if anything worth your time is going to be stored on it.

How far does this thing stick out? I want one for a always-plugged boot drive. Would anyone know if this would be impractical for this purpose?

Would stick out the entire size of the plastic part. There's smaller ones without the micro-usb feature out there.

For example this 128gb

would also give you more room for an OS/etc

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I saw these, but hear they overheat badly.

I like the option of having the ability to swap to Android if needed

Yeah, I mean the smaller you go, the less metal involved to help disperse the heat. So I think that might apply to all models of USB storage as you get smaller and smaller.

I have Ubuntu installed on a USB that I can boot to, it's pretty nice. You can do Windows on a USB too.
