Local currency transfer is fine but watch out for high rate on foreign transfer

At least for me I found Ria to have better rates than Xoom. Does someone have better rates than Ria?

I haven't personally seen anyone else beat Ria in speed of transfer or the rate itself. Ria is very good and extremely reliable. I haven't tried Instarem, a newly launched service which also promises Ria kind of remittance.

How does this compare to Transferwise for foreign exchange? Hard to beat...

I just answered my question. Apparently outbound from US only, not inbound. Useless to me.

Ria has been horrible for me. Their instant transfer could not even post in 3 days.
Can't beat WU mobile transfer if ok to do a quick stop. I usually just ask to pull from debit card for 0.02 cents instead of having to carry cash.

Otherwise, Xoom has been great from mobile.

Even though RIA isn't charging a fee for the currencies I checked they are skimming 1 1/2 - 2% on the exchange rate.

Transferwise is usually the best for most FX transfers. They quote the actual interbank / mid market rate and then fully disclose their additional fee. The only time Transferwise may not be the lowest is for small transactions.

Sometimes, I have seen Western Union show better rates than RIA.

I use RIA through Walmart to Walmart money transfer once a month. Family member in Florida gets it no problem. Only a couple minutes after sending, it is available. Pretty good rate.

Depend on country and amount of money you send.

For sending $2000 to China
Ria: $2000 = 13470.40 CNY
Xoom: $2000 = 13706.60 CNY

I used Xoom to send money to China, they got the money in 1 minute.
