And a "gear loft" and "media pocket" which most assuredly are just additional tent pieces.

The 22 piece set is better for 2 people.

The 22 piece kit includes worthless pillows.

And teeny tiny dry bags. Pretty worthless all around in my opinion. Better to eschew all these extra items and just buy what you need the first time.

So does the 28 piece kit.

Neither is all that amazing, but definitely cheaper than a sum of the parts and good for someone who wants to experience car camping without having to find all of the pieces.

Personally my sleeping bag, that was the cheapest of its class, on clearance, and with a coupon still cost a bit more than the 22 piece kit.

My backpack on the other hand cost 5 times what this kit costs Frown

For anyone thinking about getting one of these, do yourself a favor and upgrade your sleeping pads first. These tiny foam pads are basically equivalent to sleeping on the hard ground. Spend some cash and get a decent inflatable pad, your back will thank you.

I think the ozark trail 6 piece setup at $98 looks like the best deal because it is an instant tent and, as mentioned, you'll want to pick out your own pillow and mattress or pad.

Don't forget a cheap tarp to put underneath if the ground is going to be damp and upgrade the tent stakes immediately.

I think money would be better spent just buying decent budget gear instead of saving money on crap that would just get replaced ASAP. I'd consider this as a 1 off experience or gear to let the kids "camp" in the back yard. But that's about it.

The sad thing about decent gear is when you have to leave it up for two months at a time it is usually trash at the end of the time. Uv damage, broken pole from a storm, shell ripped by an animal, something usually happens. So i go cheap and know I'll have to buy again, but I'm not out all that much. 10 weekends for the renaissance festival...
