I've owned this router for about a year now (bought this deal last August) and am very pleased with this little compact. I've used it so far to round off edges and create dado/slots for shelves. For the latter, since this has a fixed base, I drilled a shallow hole first, then set the router bit in the hole to get started; and the soft-start feature makes it less "jerky". I like how it comes with a round base and is easy to change between them. It also has LED lighting, which helps. Even though it's compact, I found it easy to control freehand. It has enough power for the work I do. Sure, it's not a full size, plunge base router with a 1/2" collet, but those typically cost at least twice this. This is perfectly fine for light duty work and I've yet to snap a bit. Just make shallow passes and go slow.

And this includes a sheet sander, which is a nice bonus. Speaking of, the sheet sander has a flaw where the clip that holds the sheet of sandpaper wears down over time and loses its ability to grip the paper. This isn't an issue for me because I use the peel and stick sandpaper made by Diablo. When you're done sanding, just be sure to remove the sandpaper, otherwise it may be harder to peel off later (the sticker type). Plus the peel and stick sandpaper is much quicker to install.

Don't forget to register your router online within 90 days of purchase to take advantage of Ridgid's Lifetime Warranty. Otherwise, I think the warranty defaults to 3 years. I wasn't able to apply the Lifetime Warranty to the sheet sander, but that's not really important to me.

I am fairly new to routers. Is there a router table you could put this router on? I want to be able to make picture frames, but I don't know a lot about it. I kind of think a flat surface like a router table would be nice for the long, straight cuts. Any thoughts? This seems like a good deal. My wife will use the sander.
