This is a great value for money. Only reason I am not going to grab it is the lack of alarm I/o ports.

This is a good deal but will be 650 in a few months. That's been the case with the other two 4K Lorex systems at Costco

The specs on this system are quite impressive. The technology just keeps getting better.

Thanks for posting this JasonC! ( repped )

What I like about the camera:

1) looks like you can mount the camera in a way to prevent the cable from being cut ( one of my biggest complaints about the other style camera they had in the previous kits ). You would need to route the cable in wall / attic / soffit or in a junction box w/perhaps conduit.

2) Nice larger sized imaging sensor ( 1/1.8" )

3) Metal case

4) IP67 otudoor rated.

What I do not like about the camera

A) A rather wide H FOV: 111° ( thus the ID distance will be shorter. I prefer 90° or less for most camera positions )

What others may note:

15 fps at "4K" / 8MP - normally not an issue for most security camera setups. Yes, would be nice if it had more processing power to handle 30 fps - but then that would cost more.

While I suspect this is a Dahua OEM camera ( Dahua now owns Lorex ), I have not seen this style of camera in Dahua's international website yet.

Thanks soby,

Looks like a new style of camera ( this is the first I have seen this one )

https://www.lorextechnology.com/d...eet_R1.pdf

8MP/4K 1/1.8" CMOS - larger sensor = good news
4K(8MP) @ 15fps, 4MP@ 20fps, 3MP, 2MP @30fps - still 15 fps at max res, so that's similar to other kit

NVR appears to be related to the previous ( 8 port ) kit.. ( judging by the back panel, now in white )

update: note - I have not seen much on ipcamtalk about Dahua's "smart detection" of people and cars

Just checked the Dahua International website looking for the cameras that may be similar to those in this kit.

I did not yet find much.

With the 1/1.8" sensor I expect this camera to produce better low light images compared to the model in the previous Lorex kit at Costco.

Here btw is the closest I found on the previous version of the kit ( Active Deterrence ) - note that Lorex typically removes the IVS functionality from their version, and this may mean less processing power / ram and sometimes also no microSD card slot. So do remember this is simply for comparison purposes and not an exact match of Lorex camera with a Dahua OEM international model.

Any chance that 8k cameras are coming down the pipeline? That would really be impressive.

HI Samuraidog

There are 12MP security cameras and security cameras with multiple lenses ( panorama ).

So definitely a few options there. However, for most SD'ers we're probably looking for cameras which are more affordable than those models ( currently, give a few years and certainly we'll see better cameras out at the prices we're currently paying )

In terms of "8K" - first wait for "8K" TV and monitors to come out and become popular. Once that happens then you can expect to see more security cameras come out for those with "8K" monitors.

For $200 more, Costco has this: https://www.costco.com/Lorex-16-C...01739.html

16ch NVR
12 x 4K 8mp cameras
Remote triggered siren alert

EDIT: Nevermind, that system is not POE. They had something similar with POE not too long ago at the same price. It was in the mailer as available online only about a month ago.

I'm buying one right now. Just returned the previous 6 camera 4k kit, as the night vision was not good. This kit looks better and if it goes on sale I can always get the difference refunded. LOVE COSTCO'S return policy. This one is also advertised as being compatible with Google home and Alexa

Thanks RichardR

I also really like Costco's return policy.

Let us know how the newer cameras compare to the older ones, and if the software interface appears the same.

Hi Matt, I'm guessing you're Mat200 on IPCamtalk. Anyway the interface is identical but the NVR unit is now white and rounded, and somewaht smaller. It also advertises integration with Google home & alexa, although I've not tried it yet.
The cameras in the new set seem much better. They are considerably larger than the previous little white squares. The new ones are more bullet style and the low light performance is much better. They have the same lame siren and white LED motion lights. I'm using the Lorex home app and despite its 2.3 start rating on Google play, I've had zero issues, but keep in mind I'm on Verizon, so my call signal is very strong.
This new set also has AI to distinguish between vehicles and people in motion capture, similar to my wyzecams.

Thank you for all your advice, very helpful

Thanks for the review RichardR! Repped.

So definitely a Dahua OEM kit. I'll have to keep an eye out and see when they add those cameras to the 16 port NVR kit at Costco.
