If you pay for the monitoring, it has LTE back up by AT&T included.

No, you can do the monitoring yourself and call the cops/fire dept yourself if need be. But if you want 24/7 professional monitoring by Ring, it's 10/month or save 20 dollars and pay 100/yr. This is the lowest monthly monitoring fee out of all the major companies in this field. You can cancel any time without penalty as well.

Is there a way to tell if this is the latest hardware from Ring? Does anyone know if it is?

Not sure. But they do offer firmware update for all of the components as well as their cameras. I have the 10 piece plus 2 floodlights. Very happy with the ease of use and everything has been running pretty smoothly for a few weeks now since I installed them. Customer service is US based and knowledgeable. Cheapest annual cost for professional monthly monitoring. I highly recommend Ring!

Additional contact sensors are $20 each. One sensor is NOT enough.

10-piece kit is a similar deal but with more basic components ($259):

https://shop.ring.com/products/al...t-10-piece

Or the 14-piece starter kit ($329):

The Amazon bundle with free Echo Dot is a good deal if you need it now. You can even return the Dot if you don't like it for money back.

Can any1 tell me what the performance of the Motion Detectors is like when you are home at night?

Does it know to stand down for water trips ?
Doe Moton Detetors only need to perform when the house is unoccupied?

If you arm the system to Home Mode, motion detection is disabled by default. Motion sensor also has motion settings where you can adjust the sensitivity as well.
