I was at a Home Depot today {37027 zip) and they had the Octane 18V hammer drill, with 3 Ah battery and charger, on the clearance rack for $129. They had about 8-10 on the rack. I was surprised to see them on clearance, and the price is cheaper than the bare tool.

They also had sets of Dewalt cordless tools in a hard case on clearance, but no price tag.

Thanks a bunch. Their sticker price was $90 for me but ended up ringing up for $80 and with a military discount i got mine for $79.38 out the door. Also, online it says they have zero in stock but i saw about 8 total in the store.

The Octane models supposedly were upgraded to accept the new Octane batteries, which have additional electrical contacts to improve available power.

But some Gen5X models supposedly were just relabled to Octane without any improvements.

In the case of the 18V impact drivers, there appears to be 3 models: Gen5X R86037 [homedepot.com], Gen5X R86038 [homedepot.com], and the Octane R86039 [homedepot.com].

All the R86037, R86038, and R86039 claim 2,250 in./lbs. of torque when using the Hyper batteries. However the Octane R86039 claims 2,400 in./lbs. of torque when using the Octane batteries. The Octane R86039 also has "6 modes", whereas the Gen5X has "3 speeds". So some improvements with the Octane impact drivers.

The only diiference between the R86037and R86038 appears to be the placement of the LED lights.

Don't know the differences on the hammer drills.

Hadn't been any of these around Madison, WI the last time I looked. Saw this notice, checked Brickseek, and now there are a couple. My hammer drill is with Home Depot's Rental Shop for an LSA repair, so get to go hunting for one of these impacts when I go to pick up the drill.
