Silver 'Creator' version of the MSI GS65 gaming laptop. This one has the higher refresh screen which is uncommon for the P65.

The main negative point brought up on these laptops is the extra work involved to upgrade and change components. The base 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD is $1140 (after coupon). Ram can be upgraded to 32GB for $65 and the SSD can be upgraded to 1TB for $50. Giving a final price of $1275 after using coupon code 'YOUTUBE3' for 5% off.

Is this a good option for a serious gamer? I'd like to get one for my sister who streams and plays, but I don't know if there's a spec that should make me pass on this one.

The only thing is the GTX 1060 Max-Q video card that is decent but not great. Everything else is top notch for a light portable laptop. You could get something with a better graphics card for around this price but the size and weight will be quite a bit more.

You should look up some reviews on the card for the games she plays to see how it performs.

The white one is only for the 1070 version.

The laptop sounds great until I saw the handling time:
Quote :
Handling Time: 20 business days
*Credit card payments may take an additional 1-2 business days for address verification
Anyone have experience with the vendor and know if it really takes that long?

I emailed them and this is what they said:

The Handling TIme is provided as an estimate for when the item will ship. In this case, we have the MSI P65 on order and it is expected to arrive at our facility within 20 business days. Once we receive the shipment, we will configure according to the specifications on your order and ship out to you.
So that handling time is for it to get shipped to them, be reconfigured, and then shipped out. They seemed to have good reviews on their Amazon store. On Amazon you can get it from them in a couple days but it's $100 more: https://www.amazon.com/GP73-Leopa...SLX3T?th=1

Personally, I think I'm going to wait for an RTX 2060 or 1660TI to drop in price since I don't need a new laptop right now and I'd like to use it for some VR.

I'd hold off, there have been deals on RTX 2060 laptops for around the same price and I think, with Nvidia's new "Super" line-up of RTX cards might extend to a laptop series of cards which could mean price drops for older RTX cards.

Also, if you want a laptop for gaming, I'd get one designed for gaming. Those are often bigger but that's due to better thermal cooling systems.

This laptop is ultrabook, designed for designers and editors etc. and not specifically for gaming. Though you can play games occasionally.

You are paying for the form factor as well as good looking powerful laptop.

This has better battery, a 7ms response 144hz display, upper mid tier GPU and 8th Gen processor which isn't less powerful than 9th gen.
