Again ... this is a router not a modem ... so unless amazon programmed this with any magic spell , there isn't any activation involved
You are right... I saw arris and surfboard and it automatically clicked in my head that it was a modem. My bad.

Noob question: Will I be able to use this Router as a WIFI extender? I currently already have an ARRIS TG862G/CT Xfinity DOCSIS 3.0 Residential Gateway + Router. Had it for 4 years now (Bought at Best Buy and not from Comcast). It's currently in the master bedroom of a 2000 sqft. 1 story house. I was thinking this router would be good for the game room which is in the other side of the house. I'm currently not getting the best signal for the game room.
Based on what the brief description states, this is nothing more than a wireless access point. It's not even a router. It doesn't serve many functions, but one of them is to be used as a wifi extender, so it should be able to fulfill your needs. However, somebody mentioned transfer speed to be a concern, since the port only supports up to 100mbps.

I don't see much use in paying for a wireless access point. Pay another $20 and get a router and use it as wireless access point. That way, if your needs ever change in the future and you need to use it as a router, instead, you can.

Lol, dude ummm you dont know what you are talking about unfortunately. This is not like a stolen cellphone that gets blocked. Modems dont get their macs blocked across multiple companies, heck modems dont even get blocked at your current company, they get put into wall garden. So used, or refurbed dont matter, any agent can re provision it if they know what they are doing and not following a script.

This is a router, there is no protection whatsoever on them, will work everywhere with anything that has Ethernet.

Routers?

Oh yes they do, one well known too big for its britches ISP provided, will ping a router as stolen, using the MAC address.

My guess these routers were installed as some package, as original equipment from the ISP provider, then resold illegally. These routers carry the ISP logos, manufactured for them, only available through them, both as original rentals, and out and out buys from them.

We had a neighbor who moved, stopped the service, but never returned the ISP router. It was thrown out with the new owners, picking this up off the trash pile, reinstalling, you would get pinged.

You make no sense, since routers can be used internally and externally without providing any information to an ISP.... You are thinking of modems.... The other guy who thought the same thing already realized he was wrong so I wont call him out on it.

Also reading is fundamental.
