LG Optimus Zone 4 - Verizon Wireless Prepaid Smartphone (In store only, YMMV) $10

In store only, but every store in my area has this on Clearance for at most $30. A few have it for roughly $10, though (one as low as $9.50). Bought one for my dad for a late Father's Day gift and it seems to work great. It says on the box that if you pay for a month of service through Verizon it will then be unlocked to use with any carrier.

I'm not sure what MVNO is all about but you can get the $40 Prepaid cards on Ebay for around $25. Those come with 3GB of data.

Are these unlocked out of the box?

Boot up to a desktop?

Use it wifi only, and for a cheap camera?

Thanks all

Is there a $35 activation fee on top of buying the phone and an air time card?
How can I buy the phone and a refill card from ebay and avoid an activation fee (if there is one)

Yeah, we actually haven't put a card on it yet and we've been using it for the apps and the camera all day.

No activation fee. Either buy a card and load it on to the phone, or sign up for a monthly recurring payment to "save" $5 and double your data. But as I said, the cards are roughly $15 cheaper on ebay and they have email delivery so probably best to go that route.

My son has busted his fourth phone in 2 years. He's used every hand-me-down phone in the house. We're on a family plan, can I buy this and pull his SIM from his Galaxy S7?

i wonder how do they get those cards that they are able to sell it that low? is it sustainable, can you choose verizon prepaid and always expect to buy those prepaid cards at that discounted price?

I don't think this phone is unlocked out of the box.

Purchased one of these for my son. We are not activating it, but using it for apps, including google voice. Seems to be working fine without activation, except that it seems to constantly have a notification saying that it isn't activated. Basically a cheap mini-tablet for him, but with Google voice, he can get calls and texts as long as he has wifi.

I just said "Activate later" and then put it in air plane mode. Works great while tethered to my iPhone for Pokemon Go..
