YouTube videos are great and all but they are usually out of date after a few days/weeks which can be very dangerous. The 3DS modding community always recommends visiting https://3ds.guide which is kept up to date and takes you through everything step by step no matter how old or new your 3ds is.

I don't want to discourage watching videos, I prefer them myself but always be careful because while the scene has slowed down quite a bit, it's still active and there are still big updates fairly frequently.

Good luck and have fun, these are great systems.

Man, I remember when my local target had these on super clearance!

Aside from the orange/white one being a bit unsightly, these things are awesome and pretty easy to install CFW on; highly recommend it.

If anyone is curious for CFW on this, use the guide by a YouTuber named sthetix that was uploaded a few days ago, best step by step guide on the internet. Just some fyi

All 2ds XL's are tn displays. Nintendo slowly started phasing out lcd in favor of tn on more recent 3ds' as well.

Hyrule N3DS XL uses IPS usually. Love mine, it lasts long and it's nice to tinker with. I think cfw is a must for the blue light filter alone.

I want to get one of these to play Pokemon. Using CFW, can I play ROM images of legally purchased games? Thanks.

EDIT: I used a flashcart to play older game boy roms, for newer 3DS titles, the CFW I was using had access to the eShop.

I may be mistaken, but I do not remember needing to use CFW to access the older roms, you just had to have the right files on the flash cart to boot into the software allowing you to play ROMs.

Yes, there tools to convert roms into 3ds installable packages. There are emulators as well.

Thanks for that suggestion. He even has a video about software which lets you stream from a 3DS to your PC. I never even knew that was possible

Which cart did you use? I thought there was something that made it so you couldn't play 3ds roms on most carts

Get this for a six y/o or hold out for the 'Switch Lite' since I already have a Switch in the house?
