These are $20 each at Lowe's regular price. After coupon, less.

They usually charge more than $20 to recharge and recertify them.

Google Fire Protection? I don't think they're in my area yet. Man, what Google won't dip their fingers into! :-)

Yep - seeing them for $19.97 at my Lowe's now, this woot offer isn't really a deal at all. Seeing the equivalent from Menards [menards.com] for about $13 - that's a good sale price.

This doesn't seem like much of a deal. I was expecting the larger ones.

I miss the old Woot.

I was about to say, "Oh, this is just the Woot Deals or sellout.woot expansion, not the daily deal," but upon a second look, I see that they daily Woot thing is not really much of a thing anymore.

Also, just an aside that there's a poll on the page, "Worst final performance?" The options are:
  • Raul Julia in Street Fighter
  • Gene Kelly in Xanadu
  • Chris Farley in Almost Heroes
  • Robin Williams in Night at the Museum III
What the hell? Somebody can't tell the difference between bad performance and good performer in a mediocre-to-bad movie. Raul Julia was the only good thing in Street Fighter, and I don't know if Gene Kelly was ever bad in anything. I mean, from a technical standpoint, the answer is probably Farley, but technical performance wasn't the point; it was supposed to be goofy. In that regard, I'd say even Farley was right on point. I wouldn't say any of these are bad performances (though I haven't seen Williams in that particular movie, though I did see the first one).

Your local fire station will usually refill it for free or at a minimum cost.

Even if this isn't slick, I'd like to take this time to remind everyone to have a set at home (especially in your kitchen and basement) andto make sure your smoke alarm is set with batteries. My parents just lost their house and a $20 fire extinguisher at the right time could have saved it.

From what I've read, you should stay away from First Alert. It is better than nothing, but there are better options that are less likely to fail when you really need it. Here's a firefighter discussing what to look for in a fire extinguisher.

Pretty sure costco sometimes has these on sale for about $13 and the 5lb for about $25. Flimsy junk handle though on the 2.5lb.
