install windows 8

288 22 June 29, 2019 at 05:55 AM
My laptop originally came with windows 8,was later upgraded to 10.
One of the product drivers are only available in windows 8,so I'm trying to go back to windows 8 ,install the drivers and then upgrade back to 10.

I couldn't get it to downgrade to Windows 8.have tried reset but it resets to 10

Any ideas ,I have windows 8 recovery media

Windows 10 only lets you revert back to its previous version for 30 days.

There is another method, some computers have boot recovery options. If yours does, you would typically see a formatted partition with something like HP Recovery. You would then use one of the function buttons during bootup to trigger the recovery method. Resetting using that method instead of resetting with the Windows Settings options will reset with the computer's original setup instead of just resetting Windows 10.

You could always go with a Windows 8 installation disk, but you would need a standalone key and not a preinstalled key.

That being said, does Windows 10 not automatically install the drivers for the product in question? Or alternatively, have you tried to install it manually using the Windows 8 drivers while in windows 10? We have an old copier in my office, the Windows 10 computers will not automatically install drivers for it. Instead, we download windows 7 drivers. The printers work fine after installation.

What driver are you having trouble with? I am guessing you didn't just update it and it's been months/years since it was upgraded?

Per the previous post, you can possibly use the laptop's recovery discs / partition to revert back to the way it was when purchased (Windows 8).

Another alternative is to just download the Windows 8 iso from Microsoft and do a clean install. You should have a Windows product key on a sticker on the laptop or in the documentation. This key will allow you to activate the clean install, but you have to ensure that you use the correct version of Windows 8.

With all of that said, what you are trying to do is pointless. Installing the device driver in Windows 8 will not make it work when you install Windows 10. You will have to update the driver and as you have stated, no driver exists for Windows 10. You are better off trying existing drivers or perhaps third-party drivers if they exist.

Looks like replacements that work with Windows 10 are less then $20. I would personally so buy a new one or a cable and say forget about W8. Such a pile of garbage it was.

You can try installing the driver in compatibility mode - see this LINK [windowscentral.com]

Was just gonna ask if OP had tried this already.

OP... post the driver that you need, or preferably the Hardware ID (from Device Manager-->right click device-->Properties-->Details tab-->Hardware IDs from drop-down box). Copy/paste the top ID (largest one) here.
