In lieu of a NAS I use the 8 bay version of this for years to push all my media to my Nvidia Shield. As long as you use the estata controller (or the USB 3.1) its never given me any problems.

The only time it's had issues is when a single drive goes bad....and then the streaming seems to fail/stutter regardless of which drive it's pulling the media from. In a way it's a good thing cause it reminds me to replace the bad drive.

I know they get mixed reviews but I've been very happy with mine.
