A better answer is, this wakes you up, gives you the motivation & energy to workout. And the taste/effect can make you look forward to working out the next day.
The awakening ingredients to look for are:

caffeine (at least 150 for me).
L-citrulline Malate (im used to 2600 mg).
Beta-Alanine (I used 975 mg).
I forgot which has this effect: L-citrulline Malate (At 2600 mg dose) or Beta-Alanine (at 975 mg dose) >> it makes my eyebrows itchy for 1 min. But I learned to love this. It really woke me up. Made me get up to splash water on my face, then I wanted to workout. The main effect is it pumps your muscles up too - increases bloodflow or something.

But warning, it has sucralose, artificial sugar. I learned that too much of this can cause my skin to break out, and get dry itchy. The Pre workout I used, had sucalose, and I was ok. But when I stacked it daily with Recovery mix (which included more sucalose), the amount put my skin past the limit. (And I was already on a no sugar diet, except for these workout drinks.)

So this pre workout mix might be ok alone. Just a warning. Because my Prework mix is out of stock (not this Optimum brand). So I had to waste days looking for a replacement that didnt have too much sucalose or sugar. I found a stevia type. But it might cause breakouts too.
I also tried unflavored (amino acids). But it tasted so bad, like metal salt. Only way to drink it was with 1parts lime juice + 5 parts water (to avoid fruit-juice sugar but mask the taste).

Whey protein is a nutrition source for muscle development and this is Pre-workout which will give you more energy for your work out. Others can chime in with a more scientific answer. 😉

Three grams of citrulline? Pretty under dosed if ask me. I would be double scooping this so not much of a deal for me. Rather get a fully dosed preworkout.

Not a fan of artificial food colorings. So many supplements are go don't put that bs anymore. Rather pay a tad more for a cleaner supplement
