Amazon has this at a reduced price compared to the normal price of $799.99. Shows only 1 in stock, but it does allow to order more for when they will be in stock. Amazon has it listed as THX Select certified, but it's actually THX Ultra certified.

EDIT: Price is still active, but the sub is now OOS and shows 1-2 months to ship.

I don't own the VTF-2.5, but do own the HSU Flagship sub, the VTF-15H mk2. On paper the VTF-2, like the other ported subs in the HSU lineup, are particularly strong in the 50-80Hz range. The VTF-2 should have a bit more output capability in that range than say the Monolith 12 or PB-2000. The Monolith 12 will have a very flat, linear frequency response and will be a bit stronger lower in range than the VTF-2. One thing to note with the VTF-2 is to get the lowest extension you must plug one of the two ports, same as the Monolith 12. The issue with the HSU is in 1 port mode it can run into noticeable port noise when pushed very hard or during demanding LFE, as this has been pointed out by several people over the past few years. The Monolith 12 doesn't really run into port noise issues in 1 port mode. The Monolith has a bigger cabinet and a much beefier driver than the HSU. This also allows the Monolith to play with nearly the same lower extension output in 1 or 2 port mode.

The following numbers are from Audioholics, who reviewed and measured both the Monolith 12 and HSU VTF-2.5. Here are the max output numbers for the Monolith 12 at 16Hz. 1 port= 98.5dB, 2 port= 97.6dB. This was measured in THX mode. The reviewer stated the sub will get a couple of dB more output in extended mode. As you can see, the difference is minimal, less than 1dB.

Here are the max output numbers for the HSU VTF-2.5 at 16Hz. 1 port= 97.5dB, 2 port= 87.3dB. As you can see, there is a huge drop off in output using 2 ports open. So if you really want that lower extension below 20Hz you must use the sub in 1 port mode, but this puts a lot of demand on the sub and then you get the increased probability of port noise and increased distortion.

The Monolith subs are just built like a tank. The driver, cabinet and amp are all super high quality and it can take pretty much anything you can throw at it. The VTF-2.5 is a good sub for sure and has some tuning flexibility, but I personally wouldn't buy one, which is why I haven't bought one.laugh out loud I hate port noise and that was a big reason I bought the VTF-15H.2 over the VTF-3.5, which also has known port noise issues in 1 port mode.

It does look like somebody snagged the last one. I would bet this ships sooner than 1-2 months. You could always order one now while the price is $160 less and cancel at any time if something better comes along. It's not likely to be any cheaper, that's for sure.

Not having any idea how you have the sub set up, sub placement, your room size, layout, seating positions, etc., it's impossible to say. What exactly are you referring to "midrage" lacking? The Monolith subs play incredibly clean and linear, so perhaps your older sub had the "humped response" that makes it louder in the specific range you are referring to. I have no knowledge of the Velodyne cht12. I have a pair of the Monolith THX 10's and a pair of the 12's and they certainly aren't lacking in the typical 20-80Hz range you typically use subs for.

I have the 10 inch one. While I do love how low and clean it gets, I feel midrange is really lacking. Do other experience the same or is it just me. And can I do anything to fix it. My old Velodyne CHT-12 felt like it had better midrange and maybe even punch but this monoloth is 10x cleaner and lower

I gave it all of 2 min thought after I posted my last message and then purchased. I've wanted one of these for months and got the go-ahead from my wife. No chance I was going to risk an approval getting rescinded later.

Thanks for the post!

What do you have your fronts crossed over at and what did you set the sub eq too? Having it in THX should produce more output than in extended, but you will lose a little extension past 20hz.

On Monoprice website they have a 12" sub for $99 (got for $94 on sale). I got 2 of them while waiting on a good deal. It's super cheap but great quality sound until I can get 2 of these monoliths .

Good deal. But im happy with my svs pb2000.
Nothing wrong at all with the PB-2000. I used to own one and it is comparable overall to the Monolith 12, but not quite as impressive. The Monolith 12 is the best 12" sub I've ever owned or heard. This price makes me want to buy one, despite the fact I already own two. Clivebrow

Amazon errs on the side of caution. It surely won't take that long. I would maybe be concerned if Monoprice was out of inventory, but they're not. And you could cancel the order if you don't like how long it is taking.

I wish Outlaw would put the X13 on sale. Mad

How would this compare to the HSU VTF2.5 ? They are in the same price range.

I have the Def Tec ProSub 1000 and am quite happy with it. Not sure how it compares with the Monolith?
