Hello Smilie If this information helps in any way, Ring, Inc. is owned by Amazon and this item is sold and shipped directly from Amazon.com. In addition, the description on the page lists this refurbished item "... is refurbished, tested, and certified to look and work like new" and includes the same 1-year limited warranty and service as when purchasing this device brand new (example here [amazon.com]). Apple also operates in a similar fashion with their refurbished devices. Hope this helps Smilie

Never had a problem with refurbs, and have been buying them 10 years or so.

With a refurb you know you have had a tech look at it and test it, unlike most new products.

Unless things changed recently, you can, but you can't get any video recording or anything. If you don't see it happen live you don't see it. You have to pay the $3/month fee or whatever it is for it to actually function. You can't have it upload videos to your own storage or network, it has to go to Ring.com. These door bells are great, but screw that subscription stuff. We returned ours when we saw the bait and switch. We also had an issue where the mechanical doorbell would suddenly stop working. I can't recommend these, especially given how chatty these things are and what they phone home. Great hardware, terrible company.

great deal if you dont mind refurbished. I just got one of these and it works great. just get an extra battery so you always have a charged one ready to replace. cheap monitoring fees. Im looking to get the indoor camera to replace my canary (canary is expensive and not great).

I know people that respond to me will say they've never had a refurbished electronic fail, in fact anyone who doesn't get everything refurbished is a moron but I don't think at this price it's remotely worth the risk.

The whole "tested and certified" bit.. I mean do people really think typical refurbished items are not tested first and aren't "certified" (btw that's not some 3rd party having a team of scientist and engineers come giving it a passing grade, it's just saying it passed their own internal test ie they made sure it works which ties into the tested part but certified sounds more reassuring I guess)?

At least they don't give themselves an A+ Ceritification on it like some companies lol. That's literally grading yourself on your product as if you were taking a test and said "you know what, Me, I felt as if I did a fantastic job, A+ for me!" but again.. they do certify themselves just the same.

It might work today, might not work tomorrow, especially for an outdoor product but again, I know there will be people that've bought 100 of these and 100% of them work.. that's the response I'll get at least.

Why not put that money toward a new one on sale instead that has a better warranty and can be added to an extended warranty (if thats your thing.. I don't believe in those either but they're better than refurb electronics)?
I read somewhere that refurbished electronics have a more thorough quality inspection because the company starts losing money if it fails and is returned again. As your post stated, I do fall in the category that every refurbished product I've purchased has not failed me, so I could be biased.

The only down side for this refurbish device could the battery life, battery may not contain much juice, but this is WIFI device, you should always hardwired it!!!

Refurbished or not, as of February 2019 I am waiting on my 4th replacement of Ring video doorbell 2. Forth, in 6 months and those were brand new. I am so glad Ring has great customer service and warranty. But my only concern with refurbished items is that if it breaks, you'll get one replaced with another refurbished one and not a new unit. Then you'll just be stuck in a refurbished cycle.

If it helps anyone on the fence, I bought the first gen refurb from Woot for 50 bucks and it was basically brand new in the box. The Pro model has been as low as 120 on Woot. This is a good deal for the v2 but the Pro might be worth the extra $ if that goes on sale again

Bought the ring video 2 and doorbell chime bundle for like $160 from qvc a year ago but have yet to install it. Is there a newer version released since in similar price range?

Can this be used as stand alone meaning not having to pay a monitoring fee. I hate paying monthly fees. Also any way to connect this to BlueIris so I can do self monitoring. I have an Alexa Echo and like the part of being notified by that. But don't want to use their monthly monitoring service and simply connect to BlueIris to push video to the cloud (aka gmail). Thanks in advance.

Yes, it works fine standalone. Our free monitoring ran out a year ago.
