Amazon and Wayfair both have the Corelle Winter Frost White Dinnerware Set (38-Piece, Service for 12) on sale for $87. They show the list as $165 but that's inflated. These are the vitrelle glass and they usually go for $3/plate. This is the glass that's very thin but extremely chip and break resistant. They're great around kids because you get the benefits of glass (in that it's non-porous) but it's light, thin and unbreakable. I bought this so that when we have parties I don't have to buy plastic and throw it out. I figure these look better and will last a long time. According to Camel, it's hit this price before but the typical price is $120. Here's the Amazon description

38 piece set includes: 12 each of the following: 10-1/4-inch plates, 6-3/4-inch plates, 18-ounce bowls, plus two 12-1/4-inch serving platters.
Crisp, bright and classic, this white dinnerware set is as versatile as it is timeless
Nothing-else-like-it, triple-layer-strong glass plates and bowls highly resist chips and cracks
Lightweight and easy to handle
Ultra-hygienic, non-porous and easy-to-clean
Plates and bowls stack compactly, taking up half the space of ceramic dishes
Dishwasher, microwave and preheated-oven safe
Crafted with pride in Corning, New York
3-year limited warranty

I've had Corelle for years - not the most stylish out there but they're exceptionally durable and stack beautifully.

Until they do, and then watch out. It's like a glass-shard grenade went off. A dinner plate will probably shatter into a thousand pieces, each one a tiny knife.

Vitrelle is pretty cool. It's three layers of glass; the outer two have a different energy potential than the inner layer and this balance is what makes them so strong...but also makes them blow up spectacularly when that balance is disrupted by the right (or wrong) impact (usually on tile or something similarly hard, hardwood and laminate are pretty safe).

Good. Coffee mugs are such a poopy filler item.

They are practically unbreakable which is good for my family... as an alternative to this deal. Walmart's standard 4 place setting pack is $29 normally and it includes 4 each of , dinner plate, bread plate, soup bowl and mug...

For those who don't need the coffee mugs, the IKEA Oftast line is also white tempered glass and costs < $1 apiece. They stack reasonably well with similar Corelle pieces.

Strange. I have chipped Corelle (which is admittedly old) but no chipped IKEA (yet).

My experience too. My Corelle broke when I dropped it whereas my IKEA plates have held up through more drops.

Honestly, ShopRite and other grocery stores often have these on sale for $2 or even $1. This happens at least once a year, and you can pick exactly what pieces you want. I've bought these pieces every year. This deal is really just okay.

Same experience here. We switched to Ikea during a sale when Oftast was $.79/pc last year because I kept missing the Corelle sales.

For those considering Ikea, they're made in France and have textured bottom, while Corelle is made in USA and has the same smooth finish everywhere. Corelle dinner plates are about 1/4in larger diameter.

No chip with my Corelle set over 50 pieces. Love Corelle.
