Anyone know if this tv would be recommended for use in a living room with a lot of sunlight?

Yes. LGs IPS displays have historically been great for wide seating and bright rooms. IPS does not lend itself to great dark room (media room , no windows) performance .

Anyone know the main difference between the SM vs the UM? I've been keeping an eye on those and been close on pulling the trigger a couple times. I'm upgrading from a first gen Vizio 4k without HDR which is a few years old so I'm thinking anything will be a good upgrade. Going after 75-85inch with about 2.5-3k budget. Another option I'm looking at was the 850F or 900 sony.

S series is their wider color gamut series vs U series that does not have high enough wide color gamut.

S series were all sold as Super UHD series and U were sold as UHD series. Super UHD has now become nano cell for LG. Usually has better features .

Contrast is one are where LG TVs are lacking because majority of panels are IPS and not VA. Their local dimming algorithms are also not as good. Color reproduction, PQ wise they are really good. The Operating system WebOS s also top notch.
