This or Yamaha TSR 7850?
Yamaha tends to be a more reliable brand. For musical quality, I would also put them ahead of other brands. As far as WPC and all of that, you'll have to compare specs.

I believe all the "RZ" models are vintage 2017. Old technology. You can still find them new in box for good sale price. A lot of stores still have many of these units in stock and are clearing them out for the newer models. I just talked to customer service last week about them. I actually got a great deal factory direct from Onkyo 30% cheaper than retail, and no tax, free shipping, on a newly released 2019 TX-NR696. Be sure that World Wide Stereo is an authorized Onkyo retailer or you wont have a warranty.

TU, big fan of Onkyo. Would be all over this if I could, I'm stuck in 5.1 with my Acoustimass setup. No easy way to upgrade without scrapping everything and starting over. I miss having cutting edge, but my dated stuff still pretty good.
Dude you've explained the plight of the modern day tech consumer. We've come to expect to be a little behind each year and sometimes we buy tech right before it makes a big change and all of a sudden we realize we can't live without it and we shell out the cash...

Tech.

Yamaha for sure If you care about HDMI ARC. I tried Onkyo 686 with Samsung Q6, the ARC worked one time. Couple weeks back when Amazon had RZ830 On sale, I thought I will give Onkyo another try hopping higher end model will do better and set it up with more forgiven LG TV, this time it worked one day! Called Onkyo support and they just told me to return it. My 10 year old Yamaha has better ARC compatibility than Onkyo. On the sound quality side, using the RZ830's preout to power amp was no comparison to Oppo 203 even both use the same AKM DAC. A 2017 Yamaha A1070 while using an older DAC, sounded closer to the Oppo 203. I was also surprised and dismayed to foud out, even the Onkyo has the power off HDMI pass through mode, you cannot switch the input source If you enable the ARC!! The RZ830 was returned after one day.

30% off retail which is $579 (making it $405 after discount) or 30% off of the listed "sale" price of $529 (making it $370 after discount)? $370 with no tax and free shipping directly from Onkyo brand new would be a killer deal compared to this one.
