Apple MacBook Air 13.3" Laptop Intel Core i5 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
The 13.3" MacBook Air Laptop Computer from Apple is an ultraportable notebook computer with a thin and lightweight design. Apple's engineers have leveraged the lessons they learned in designing the miniaturized iPad and applied them to the design of this 2.96-pound computer.
To say that the Air is svelte is all at once stating the obvious and understating the truth. The system is defined by its unibody aluminum enclosure. At its thickest point the computer is only 0.68" -- it tapers down to 0.11" at its thinnest.
Specifications:
• 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5
• 8GB of 1600 MHz LPDDR3 RAM
• 256GB PCIe-Based Flash Storage
• Integrated Intel HD Graphics 6000
• 13.3" LED-Backlit Glossy Display
• 1440 x 900 Native Resolution
• 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0
• USB 3.0, Thunderbolt 2
• 720p FaceTime HD Camera, SDXC Card Slot
• Mac OS X El Capitan or macOS Sierra
What's in the box?
✔️Apple MacBook Air 13.3 Notebook MMGG2LL/A
✔️AC power adapter

Item condition: Refurbished

this is from itechdeals- many SD'ers have thrown out junk from them, they make returning near impossible, and seem to have figured out a way to negate ppal's protection.
Refurbished at itechdeals means, pulled out of a garbage can. It may be dirty, it may be cracked, it may be missing keys, who knows.

The price point is too appealing...if had to choose this vs one of those under $500 refurbished windows laptops, which one would you pick?

This is a fairly good deal. If you are buying this for a non-technical person to do word processing and web surfing, this is the better choice in my opinion.

It's very portable, and integrates well with the Apple ecosystem if they already have an iPhone.

I recommend this for all non-technical people and older folks because the user experience is just more smooth. Everything just works

The only thing that could potentially happen is the battery dies, then it's like a $60 battery replacement on Amazon.

Is this a good deal to delve into "Macbooks" for someone who has never owned one?

Yes. I did professional software development on a 4GB macbook air 2011 for years. It was a lot easier to use than the 32GB win 10 laptop my company gave me...

And the battery life is exceptional. I can lug it around from one meeting to the next all day without care.

If you're just "delving" into macbooks, I don't think you can go wrong with a $429 macbook. I don't think I've ever seen anything in this price range. But set your expectations properly. This is not a fully decked out Alienware or anything. It's just a good everyday laptop.

My pick would be windows 10.
Older Macbook Air's have some kind of issues. Do your own Research.
I'm not sure what the issues are. I'm rocking a mid-2013 Air. Other than a battery change about 2 years ago, it's been my daily, reliable machine for over 7 years.
