Done! Sorry this was my first post ever. Just excited because I wanted the set and had been waiting for some sort of sale.

10% is equivalent to double points at lego.com isn't it?

have any of you bought these lego KO sets off taobao or alibaba?
Two things: the Chinese ko sets are lower quality. Period. No matter how much improvement there has been, there is next to no quality control and you will get misshapen and ill fitting parts. Second, they have almost zero resale value. This set, even if you buy it at retail and assemble it, throw away the box, etc, will eventually sell for more than you paid for it. A Chinese set will never do that.

The exception to this is the non ko sets from china like the alien xenomorph and flying Dutchmen sets. Since they are fan creations, and at least some of them are licensed from their creators, they are acceptable.

I primarily purchased the Chinese sets because they were so much cheaper and I just really wanted to build them. The quality is definitely not as good as Lego but still very close. I do not think you could purchase these sets anymore because there was a huge raid on some of the production factories. While there is likely stock leftover somewhere, it would be best to avoid attempting to buy because of scammers.

Yes, you are correct. You can surpass 10% if you tack on a cashback site.

What about for sets that are no longer in production? I really want the LEGO Maersk train and container ship but they haven't made them in a long time and the prices are absurd now...

I just got my Maersk Train and ship last weekend. Already assembled. I had no quality issues. Bricks have got good solid clutch. Only thing I'd rate lower 7/10 are the stickers. Lego quality stickers they are not. From 3ft away...you could never tell. Lepin towards the end was really producing high quality sets. I'd rate them a 9/10, and this is from someone who has spent an exorbitant amount of money on Lego.

I mean, it's up to you. Personally, if I really wanted a set, I would either pay up or piece it together. Again, price wise, the likelihood is that your investment will pay off in the end. But if you want something NOW, or something which you can leave out to fade or whatever, I guess go for it?

I have bought exactly one Chinese set, and only because it was licensed by the MOC's creator, and because some parts from it are not made by Lego in the colors necessary. That was the Alien xenomorph chest buster. It's a great conversation piece. I thought about buying the Flying Dutchman MOC when my son was into Pirates of the Caribbean, but the interest passed and it was overpriced.
