You would think a "guru" would already know the original price and availability of all "Hard to Find" Lego sets like this one.

Sorry I don't have all the prices memorized of the many dozens of sets on my want list. It's standard practice to post the % off. Don't get pissed for me quoting the rules.

You would think a "Grand Teacher" would appreciate helping out (ie teaching) newer members by letting them know what is helpful to include in such a post.

The % off is certainly useful especially for the standard Target and Walmart deals where people always complain if it's not at least 20%, and these are items widely available through many stores so it's important know the % (plus there are many new sets coming out).

This is a particular one that is a special item usually only available in Lego stores and at Lego.com, and I think most people that get the catalogs and get the updates from Lego fan sites would know about this model, and it's price at $349

most of all, in this case, time was apparently of the essence. Adding all that detail would have made it take longer to post. As it turns out, i think we all missed it anyway. and so we have nothing left to do but sit here and bitch at each other about SlickDeals etiquette. ;-)

Not sure what you mean by that? Amazon sells it directly, Target sells it directly, B&N, and pretty much all Lego retailers. I would think that most people that get the catalogs and get the updates from Lego fan sites would know that.

Lego, apparently during some financial pressures, recently opened-up retail channels for a lot of products that used to be "exclusive" to Lego. (or sometimes through one retailer like Toys-R-Us). Alas, you are correct and my information was outdated.

Not recently at all. 2008 is when LEGO started selling direct-to-consumer sets through other retailers.
