This is an ok machine. Not as good as the Purple Shark Pocket Steam Mop I used to have. Floors are left super wet and I can't really compare the steam output to the old shark. Mine is just sitting in a closet. I like the pocket versions better and wish I sprung for those on Black Friday versus this

Surface is stained but the sides aren't. Steam will get down there between the joint and you'll get mold soon or later.

Keep in mind using steam cleaners is not good for unsealed hardwood floors.

I have 6 months old solid nail down hardwood flooring stained with 3 clear coats. So I don't think this should be an issue.
