Hey guys,

While I agree with the OP about the lower price on a 2080, the 2070 Super [engadget.com] and 2080 Super [forbes.com] are not much more. These Super lines offer more bangs for your bucks with a few suggestions [pcworld.com] to wait.

Cheers,
TL

2080 super will be 700 at launch, so somewhere around 100 bucks more than this for a custom oc'ed version. Get that, or wait for the og 2080 to drop even more in price as they clear them out

Leaning toward the RTX 2070 Super instead, it's within 1-3fps of the reference RTX 2080 in just about every title I spot checked [anandtech.com], and comes in at $499. That's about 1-5% relative performance decrease for 36% less money ($180 cheaper) than this RTX 2080.

I get that this is has a factory 100MHz boost overclock over the reference design, but I doubt a 100MHz boost core overclock will significantly change the above value proposition.

I think ppl get 2080 for 4k gaming and 2070 is behind by quite a bit in 4k compare to 2080. For 1440p maybe 2070 is good enough.

It's actually the opposite at 4K. To reiterate, I was referring to the 2070 Super, which is fundamentally a cut-down RTX 2080 [anandtech.com] with fewer CUDA cores. The gap between the 2080 and 2070 Super is actually at its narrowest at 4K. They're basically 1-2fps apart, at most. Definitely not worth the $180 premium at that resolution. The gap barely widens as you go down to 1440P and 1080P.

I wish we could put it into numbers how many people are using a 2080/2070S with 4K, but Steam's hardware survey is still reporting that 1080P is far and away the most popular resolution, 1440P isn't even a distant second, let alone 4K. As such, I'd wager that most 2070S/2080 buyers are actually in this range. Not surprising at all in this age of 144Hz and 240Hz displays.
