How good are these refurbs generally? Any battery problems or whatever in a year or two? How bad are the defects they come with?

If you're going to read manga on a device you want a large android tablet. This might have been good for me years and years ago compared to when I read manga on something like a PSP (there was a program that split images into PSP sized ones), but today I'd rather read manga on my phone. Which actually has the same sized screen, lol. Manga/comic apps are so far beyond the capability of this thing its not even funny.

Bought a refurb Kindle three years ago and it's still going strong. No issues at all. Only "defect" was a tiny knick on the back of the case.

Man, I'm really tempted by this but I'm afraid I just won't use it enough. Ugh.

Edit: No Audible support with this model.

Yeah I think so. I haven't actually synced my library in a long long time, so maybe there's an update that allows sync over WiFi or Bluetooth

You can get 25% cashback on the new Kindle Paperwhite 32 GB on July 15-16 if you have a Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card or Amazon Prime Store Card.

Right now, the Kindle's price on Amazon is $110 for Prime members.

$110 - $27.5 cashback = $82.5 total

For $22.5 dollars more, you get IPX8 waterproofing, bluetooth for audiobooks, flush-front display, and new instead of refurbished.

It also comes with $5 credit to buy ebooks and 3 months of kindle unlimited.

I'm guessing we won't see better than this in the next couple days - have all the Prime Day sales been listed or are there surprises too?

Want to buy a new kindle to upgrade my aunt's 1st gen Kindle Touch. Can't decide between this or the 2019 basic New Kindle for the same price. Won't be able to claim the warranty or exchange if something is wrong with the device because I'm sending this to Asia. Any thoughts?

I won't be happy until they bring back the 9" DX models
Amazon seems to be sticking with the 7" Oasis as their new "luxury" e-reader. To get something closer to the DX's screen size (without buying used) you have to go with a non-Amazon brand. I think the current (non-knockoff) options are the Kobo Aura ONE, the Kobo Forma, and the Sony DPT.
  • Kobo Aura ONE, 7.8" ($280): HD Carta E Ink touchscreen, 1872 x 1404 resolution 300 dpi
  • Kobo Forma, 8.0" ($280): 300 PPI E Ink Carta display, 1440 × 1920 resolution
  • Sony DPT-CP1, 10.3" ($600) high contrast display; 1404 x 1872 dots
  • Sony DPT-RP1, 13.3" ($700) high contrast display; 1650 x 2200 dots

The Aura ONE is the only e-reader of the 4 with decent reviews tho.

I'm with you. I picked up a DX 2G for $15 at a university auction, and loved it. Had to choke down a battery for almost that much, but I'll use that over my Paperwhite any time I'm not reading in the dark.
