50 dollar price drop since last week on this. Should I wait for another one?
Also noticed this one is 400. SSD instead of dedicated video.

Tough choice. Neither config is ideal. The SSD in your config may be too small for power users. But the GTX 1050 card in the OP's deal may be too slow for those who need better graphics performance. If they were both $400, I'd go for the GTX 1050 config and add a 256GB/512GB SSD myself. But since the OP's deal is already $50 more, it'll be an extra $100 than your find after an SSD upgrade.

Office depot keeps dropping this unit by $50 every couple of months and still cannot unload these things. LOL.

They should just bite the bullet and let all the SDers clean out their inventory in minutes at $299 .

Basic i5-8400 configs (no SSD or discrete graphics) from Acer had gotten down to as low as $340 or $345 in Jan-Feb. Then the prices jumped up to over $400. So, no guarantee of another price drop. It may or may not happen.

While that may be true, I think the real issue here is that Office Depot is trying to clear out these desktops but nobody is biting. That's why I suggested they blow them out for cheap if they really want to clean house rather than drag it out for months.

Please be wary that the power supplies on these things don't have sata connectors

There is actually another molex type of port on the motherboard with a propietary cable from HP that connects to the hard drives/disk drive

Also based on the internal size of the desktop i don't think you can switch the PSU without a workaround. I mention work around because i have seen a video of someone who used another PSU but i also noticed he didn't put the side panel.

Personally i liked the size and weight but did not fancy the proprietary sata connection cable it used . My cable actually failed and HP would not supply the replacement part for it, i had to hunt online for someone that took apart a USED unit for me to fix it in days as opposed to waiting 2-3 weeks from HP

So is this a good deal relatively speaking compared to what else is out on the market? Some of the comments are hard to cipher. Would it be worth it and easy enough to install a crucial 256gb SSD with this system for $40 extra?

Mine arrived yesterday, just set it up. Not a techie/gamer, bought it for my son to play fortnite. Fortnite was bit tricky to install but it's on there now. Machine is very light and relatively quiet. Will probably add RAM, I see one free slot. Would also like to know the difficulty of adding a SSD.

I'd say no. These low end builds, they have a tendency to hike up the price. The 1050 is such garbage for anything above the lowest of games. Just hold out for something in the 600 range in the next two weeks. Something with an RX 590. That will play AAA games.

Go with the one with dedicated GTX 1050. SSD prices are very cheap now and you can grab a 512GB SATA III SSD around $40. Also, iif you want NVMe SSD, you can just spend like $35 to get a 256GB one. Replacing SSD is very cheap whereas a GTX 1050 2GB will be over $100 for sure.

Thinking about buying this. My biggest concern is noise level. I hate loud whirring small fans, and if the PSU is loud, there's really no way to change it. Anybody have one of these (any version) who can tell me something about its noise level?

good home PC, that can play games. Newer games - 1080, med settings, 30 FPS. i say get this if you want to play some older games.

I have the version of this with the RX580, ryzen 7, 16gb Ram and SSD and if they share the same mother board which i think they do, there should be a SATA port you can use to add an SSD.

I bought a prodesk 400g5 off craigslist, it has i5-8500 and works great for my computation work. Now looking for another one, this is one of the good deals currently but gonna hold out for better...

For cpu-intensive computation, hyper-threading is ineffective and i5 is the best choice (kinda like gaming).
