All the different ones I've used are set up so that you have to hold the button down for a while (like 5 seconds)...let go...and then hit it again when there's a 'confirmation' flash. Sort of hard to accidentally do it. They also required that it's not hooked up to USB.

Got the USB-C 3.1 version from Amazon for $26 during Prime Day. Really solid. Can't imagine this is any different. Good price for sure.

2 things I always look for in these type of docks:

- must allow duplicating without being plugged in to computer
- must only have 1 data transfer cable (so it only takes up 1 USB slot)

It looks like this one checks off both boxes, so I am grabbing. Thanks OP

Duplicator button seems dangerous lol. Not sure if I'd use it enough to be worth it's risk.

Super sweet if you do a lot of duplicating though.

Can I use this as a sort of portable hard drive with random drives put in it?

Perfect for those who like to live dangerously and enjoy knocking hard drives off tables.

Yeah. I mean I wouldn't call it portable in an sense, but yeah you can turn 1-2 drives into externals with it. Just mind the duplicate button if that's your intended use

This looks great for the price even as a dual dock.

If you have several pulled hard drives from old PCs and you want to wipe them of data, would this device be an easier and convenient way to facilitate that process?

Yes. I used the low level format tool with Hirens and it was straight forward for me.
