Insignia docks seemed to be one of the big 3rd party ones that did not harm the switch

Very misleading. USB type C is the form factor. Nintendo switch is using USB C exactly.

What you are talking about is the power charger protocol, which is power delivery (PD). Nintendo is using PD protocol as well, but only part of it. (20V and 5V)

Early days the dock can damage the device because it does more than a charger, but also the video decoder for HDMI as well. Smart 3rd party vendors thought they hacked the decoder but they were not. Thus once Nintendo updated the firmware they all failed.

I have one of these. I used it almost every day and never seen any issue. The only downside is the cable is attached to the bulky charger so it is not that portable.

Product description says it does though. Hmm. "This Insignia dock kit includes a USB-C AC adapter for power outlet charging."

These docks use USB C. However, the Switch does not use USB C.

People think that just because it LOOKS like a USB C plug and just because a USB C plug fits in it, that it must be USB C. But USB C has strict voltage standards and Nintendo went with a proprietary voltage.

Sure, it may work for a while, but when you overcharge the battery, your Switch won't boot anymore.

There will always be fools who think they know better than Ohm's law, however.

You can do some search on r/nintendoswitch. I really don't see any issue reported to this dock (comparing to the notorious nyko dock).
Also, insignia is backed by Best Buy. If there's any brick issue Best Buy won't keep selling it.

pretty sure this was bricking switches at one point
Wrong. It was most other 3rd party docks (cheap Chinese knockoffs) that were bricking the switch. I researched extensively to make sure. There's no known cases of the Insignia dock bricking the switch. Quite a few game reviewers endorse this one. I've had mine for 3 months now and have had no issues whatsoever. It works great and has a smaller footprint. I fully recommend this dock, you won't find a better dock for this price!

Purchased this awhile back from the same vendor for the same price. Leave it in my office for Mario Kart competitions. After 4 months it still works great, and my switch is totally fine. The package came with Best Buy tape all over it.

FYI, I bought this On Sale New at Best Buy back in February for $24.99. So I guess if you are not in a hurry, you would keep an eye out at Best Buy for a new one, not this refurb.

Also if you have a tempered glass protector, the Switch will fit kinda tight but no issues at all. Some reviews say it leaves a scuff marks on the back of the switch because of the screen protector.

I have this dock. Used it for almost a year so far, no worries at all. It's currently my bedroom dock, and I used it exclusively 6 months in a hotel room as my main dock when I was working away from home.

Great device, good form factor
