Charlotte is a very diverse city, so I'm assuming you're talking about San Jose. Yes don't come here, we're out of space.

Charlotte: 45% white, 35% black, 13% latino, 5% Asian.

San Jose - 28.7% non hispanic white, 3% black, 33% latino, 32% asian.

I would say San Jose is definitely more diverse, especially when it comes to asians who are grossly underrepresented in Charlotte, NC. But Charlotte is still a Dem stronghold, so I think he was most likely thinking about South Carolina where it is much more homogeneous and conservative.

Well yeah, obviously SJ is, we're in the Bay Area, heart of the Silicon Valley, where a crazy amount of people come from all over the world to create some of the best technology in the world. Where making 200k as a family means you're kinda poor (I'm in this boat). I just wanted to show love to Charlotte. I've had a great time every time I've been there as a minority. Have family there and they earn a decent wage considering cost of living. Go visit! Cool place.

I recently signed up for an AA credit card. Will my checked bag be free if I book through Expedia or a similar site?

Actually no paying customers are allowed, doesn't matter what your background is. And that resentment towards humanity in general resonates throughout most of the American airline industry.

There is nothing to do in san jose that isnt found in other big cities.
It's not really a touristy spot. It's just a suburb that has grown to become the 3rd largest city in the state of CA. Unless you want to see a lot of the headquarters of big tech companies.

The touristy stuff is around san jose and the greater bay area. Obviously first stop is SF. which is about 45min to an hour depending where from each point you are coming and going to.

san jose is diverse if you arent white or black. other races, esp asian or latino and its great.
you walk into a busy store in most parts of san jose, and if you are white, believe me you'll probably be the minority of the general population in the store and for the most part of the entire city of San Jose. Even more so if you are black.

If you visit during the 3rd Friday of any month you should rent a bike and join http://www.sjbikeparty.org/
Easily a night of memories for anyone into mass socialization.

If you like amusement parks... we got a nice little one called Great America in Santa Clara only a 15 minute Light Rail ride from Downtown. You won't find world class coasters as they have height restrictions being so close to the airport, but they get the job done for a solid day.

If you're a beer person SJ has its own miracle mile of breweries from 7th to 10th street for some epic brew hopping. Not as much as Charlotte has, but good for the a visit.

Those are good things to keep you busy if you make SJ your hub for a "bay area" vacation. Half way to San Francisco and less than half way to Santa Cruz.
