Thanks OP. Picked one up. This deal at vitamix.com is $20 better than buying it on amazon for the same price since it includes and additional $20 off reconditioned models.

Buying from vitamix.com reduces the price by $20 since there's a promo for reconditioned models. Total price with tax and shipping to CA is $284.65 on vitamix.com

Buy from Vitamix and support them.

This low profile container requires more volume of items for it to blend versus the 5200 is better for single people because of the jar's design.

Umm No. This is Ascent series. This can take the 8oz and 20oz containers if you want smaller blends.

After experience with both - neither product is "better." Get whatever one comes with the accessories you think are important to you.

And to be honest if you're just going to use it for smoothies (which is a completely acceptable in my book) you could go with a Ninja. I had a Ninja that I gave away when I got my Vitamix, and it performed just as well on the smoothies.

Ascent series is much better than other Vitamix series if you want small blends. That should factor in decision making as well if you are on the fence.

Not trying to start a blender war but I am looking for a good blender can someone explain why it would be smart to spend $300 on a blender? I make smoothies (sometimes) but mainly use it to make frappacunios and milkshakes. Is this for me or too much?

IMO, you could definitely get away with a less expensive machine for your needs. I use one of these in a professional kitchen blending sauces & soup, multiple gallons a day. It works well but if I was buying for home use, I'd get something cheaper.

Thanks. I'm just waiting on a true slick deal on a Vitamix or Blendtec. A big front pager. Something like brand new, 2 jars, 7 or 8 year warranty for $200. That might never happen but I guess I'm waiting for a really big deal. Maybe Black Friday?
