You mean for Z6 and Z7 - yes. All of these lenses will work with Z bodies via FTZ. AF and VR works perfectly. Just remember that DX lenses will automatically put the camera in DX mode and you will get cropped image. Everything still works. In fact IBIS works hand in hand with VR and result even more effective than using same lens on DSLRs.

Some of these lenses are stunning, like - 105mm f1.4. Not only it is an incredible lens all around, there is a looooong time before Nikon brings out native Z mount equivalent, so if you are interested in that focal length, this is one of the best options.

They're fine for photography.
Not for video, if you're doing autofocus and need good sound.
Most of my AF-S glass is noisy. The noise is loud enough to distract subjects being interviewed.
Throw it in manual focus and it'll be fine for video.

The 200-500 is tempting, but I really want the 180-400 f/4. But that's a whole different price class!

Man anyone expect the 200-500 to fall further anytime soon? I'm on the fence, really want that lens but not sure if I whoukd wait for ~1000 or so near black Friday. I'd hoped the 500pf launching would push the 200-500 to that price but doesn't look like it yet.

I don't know why they are always pushing these lenses with a bundle of cheap stuff. Who's going to use a nice lens with a "Pro Optic" filter anyway? Or use some random editing software instead of PS/LR, one of the free alternatives, or even Nikon's own NX-D? Some of the multi-filter kits even come with 1970s style hard cases.

A few of these lenses have been cheaper recently, IIRC, so you are definitely paying $20 or more for the accessories.

The 200-500 is an amazing lens. If you're considering a longer-than-300mm lens and don't mind the heft, I couldn't recommend it enough.

Let's see, for some historical pricing context, digging into an Excel spreadsheet I paid $1124.96 for a refurb straight from Nikon (it was also on sale) 3 years ago.

In my opinion, a 500mm prime is a different category of lens from a zoom even though they both can be used at 500mm. Kinda like the 70-200/2.8 could be used as a sort of macro lens, whereas a 100/2.8 Micro is a more dedicated unit.

True, but I feel that with the 200-500 and the 500pf, the target market is almost exclusively wildlife shooters and I was hoping with most wildlife shooters preferring the 500pf, this might see some price drops.

Either way, looks like the 500pf wont be readily available for some time still and there are a lot of cheap buggers like me wanting the 200-500 which by all accounts is still an excellent lens. I appreciate the historical price point but it looks like I can always get the lens for 1250 new through greentoe so might just wait till BF for this one.

P.S. You can get the 200-500 with a manfrotto tripod instead of the other shit accessories, is probably the better option since that that a detachable monopod as well.

I shoot almost exclusively with primes so I went back and forth on getting the 300/4 and a TC or the 200-500. The versatility won me over, even though I don't like how the zoom is an absolute unit.

I could/should get the 300mm + 1.4 TC since I shoot a lot of bird pics, but that combo costs almost double the 200-500. There's another problem with a big prime, unless you're only shooting stuff far away at all times, and/or have a second body with a shorter lens, there's nothing in between the long lens and normal lens (for me, the next shorter lens is the 85/1.8G). That's more money, and more weight. And as a prime shooter, I'm used to being caught out with the wrong lens every so often even with a reasonable amount of prep.

If you're not familiar with Steve Perry (not the singer), check out some of his tests and YouTube videos. [backcountrygallery.com] He goes over a ton of combos and goes beyond a spec sheet review into the pros and cons of actually using the gear. Highly recommended, and his pics are absolutely stunning.

Attached is a pic with the 200-500 and D750. This was also through a double pane window. Fairly certain it was at 200mm.

some pretty good deals here if you've been on the fence. agree that 200-500 is best bang for the buck in that range. took this pic a couple days ago with it on my d850, dialed to about 250mm. 1.3 miles from the US Capitol building across to the washington monument and Lincoln another .8 or so behind it. lots of reach and gorgeous compression. small small version (760KB jpg of 46MB raw original)

They routinely sell for $1000 used in mint condition. US version. Fred Miranda is a good site check it out. Highly recommend used lenses.
