Has anyone had any experience with these or HP in general?

Looking to buy something for my son to game on but I'd like it to be upgradeable so he can upgrade/learn as he grows.

Not really going to get much higher than the 2700 that's in it already. Doubt the Mobo will be 3rd gen compatible. Check hp website to verify (possible bios update) don't really need update ram, video is capable of handling 3a titles at medium/high settings. Enough storage albeit maybe upgrading it a little higher for more storage.

It's good for right now but it's not great for upgrading. It has a custom power supply that's difficult to replace if you wanted more power. I put a 2060 a 1 TB SSD and a 8 TB storage drive in mine.

I also put a Blu-ray drive in there.

Bought two of the previous 690-0024 2400 versions of this PC from the deal at the beginning of the year. They've generally been great. Pretty much perfect as nice looking, low-fuss gaming machines for my kids.

As per the previous post, upgradeability is an issue since some hardware is custom (PSU/MB/Case). At the time I bought the pricing made it so those components were almost free.

The second item of note was that the Bios for the MB Bios lacked standard tweaking options including XMP for RAM. Most RAM sold these days is standard clocked low and then has an XMP profile which is a built-in overclocking profile. The RAM would only run at the base clock with no option to change it in the bios, so I actually had to return "better" sticks of ram that should have run at 3K for 2667 non-XMP. The good news here is that there is already 16gb in this one, so there is no urgent need to upgrade.

its good for today but upgrading will be a challenge, i have the exact same PC and i do plan on upgrading. Here's my thoughts: i do want to upgrade the GPU eventually so im going to need a better PSU, depending on what card I want to use, this model has a 400W PSU, but I know HP makes the same PSU but 500W. So depending on the GPU I decide I can go that route. But I may need 600W, which causes an issue... This has alot of custom stuff in it... PSU, motherboard, case.... im starting to think it may be more fun to use the parts to build a new PC. KEEP the CPU, RAM, SSD, HDD. New motherboard, PSU, case, fans, GPU.

Please dont buy this system thinking you can upgrade the CPU either. Dell refuses to update the bios on their Ryzen systems even though the motherboards are perfectly capable of running 3rd generation CPUS. I'm willing to bet HP is the same.

How would this be for video editing? My dad uses Cyberlink Powerdirector and I'm looking to update his system.

Bought the 690-0024 for my son for xmas. Be warned, the onboard video card still reserves 1 gig of memory, even though it isn't usable in windows, and is disabled. This system probably has the same affliction

If you're really worried about that, it's probably time to buy some of the dirt cheap memory that's available right now.
