Really no reason to be getting this TV at this price. Last years model was better, and I'd much rather get a c8 which has cheaper than this.

Interesting. I don't think i have seen a c8 for less. A b8 for sure. My reasoning for jumping all over this: 1, I don't want to have the worry of burn in nagging constantly. 2, the x900f isn't on sale so this is cheaper.

What makes last years better out of curiosity? I've heard they're very similar so this one often isn't worth a premium to most people, but I don't think I've heard of a category this performs worse in.

Almost certain last years is brighter. Might have also gotten rid of wide angle viewing on 55" but I forget. It's not a bad TV but I think it should be a little less. But often it's hard to get deals on 55" TVs. For example, getting the 65" x900f for $200 more is a killer deal. But sadly some situations require a 55" and no bigger.

From rtings

The Sony X900F and the Sony X950G both have very similar performance. The X950G has lower input lag, which is good if you play video games or use the TV as a PC monitor. The X950G is brighter than the X900F, but the X900F has marginally higher native contrast ratio, although neither of these differences are noticeable under normal conditions.
