Only just started looking into a nas setup would these make sense for a steam library set up with a couple ssd's for cashe memory?

This is a pretty expensive solution. At least for home network media. I currently use a wd home NAS and a Nvidia shield for media streaming.

What are you trying to do exactly? I use a 2 terabyte SSD for my steam library , you can get that for around 200 now.

is this what you're talkin about? a bandwidth saving measure?

I don't disagree that Synology > WD, but I just got one and stuffed 2 x 10TB in it before realizing it has a 16TB volume limitation. I just made a second volume, but...

I'm sure other manufacturer's have this limitation as well on certain models, but...
