fair price but not a slickdeal IMO

I recommend avoiding a laptop with a "TN" panel screen. Look for "IPS" (or "PLS" or "VA"). TN panels, especially the cheapest ones (which I suspect to find in a laptop like this) have poor (in my opinion) color.

I attached a picture to give you an idea of what an TN screen looks like side by side with a IPS screen (TN on the left). From HERE [youtube.com].

(DISCLAIMER: Screens vary from one to another, some TN are better than others. This is just to give a quick visual of what people are talking about when they ask "is it IPS?" on threads like these.)

Agree. Every computer in my house is IPS. Once you go IPS, you can never look at a TN again, and it makes the biggest difference on laptops.

If this laptop had IPS screen, it would be FP worthy.

I messaged the seller to ask them if it was an IPS display. That was my only question. They just sent me back a standard reply with the specs of the laptop with no mention whether this was IPS or TN

I posted a similar version of this laptop the other day but it got downvoted for some reason. An 330s, had IPS and a dedicated graphics card for $309

I'm looking at a couple different Hp laptops on ebay. How do I know if they have an ips or a tn display? They both say 15.6" diagonal HD SVA anti-glare WLED-backlit touchscreen.

Generally if it has an IPS screen they are going to brag about it in the specs because it is a big selling point. If it has a TN screen they usually aren't going to say so.

For HP, SVA means "Standard viewing angle" and refers to the lower viewing angle of a TN screen. HP calls the better screens (IPS or VA) UWVA for "Ultra Wide Viewing Angle". TN panels, besides having worse color, also lose image quality pretty drastically when you view one from a wide angle.

If you aren't sure of the panel type on a particular screen, it can help to see if there is a "viewing angle" spec listed. If it is close to 180 degrees (usually 178 degrees for both horizonal and vertical) then it is one of the better panel types (IPS or VA).

Did you see the comment above with the Lenovo PSREF link? The Lenovo page clearly shows...

14" FHD (1920x1080) TN 220nits Anti-glare

And just for reference, check out this article. For most people, TN vs IPS isn't really consequential unless you're gaming or editing graphics.

Not always. Most of Lenovo's FHD screens, certainly on their premium line, seem to be IPS. To be certain, either check their site for the model (e.g. L340 15" Gaming) and look in the Tech Spec section - https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/lapt...8IPL301161
It will always show Display specs like "15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 250 nits".

Or check their PSREF site - http://psref.lenovo.com/ It can be kind of hard to navigate and it doesn't seem to have all their product on it, but it has tons of info.
