Xiaomi has introduced a pro version of this scooter. Price of this base model has gone down to $200 in China.

Where did you see that? I just checked the official website and it says RMB1999 which is about $300. It's still much cheaper though since in China sales tax is included in the price.
As a Chinese living in US I thought about buying one and carry it to US. However you cant put it into a suitcase and check it with your flight back to US since China forbids lithium battery in checked luggage. The only way I can think of is to take it to Hong Kong by land and take a flight back there.
Btw the Pro version currently sits at ~420USD with the maximum weight still set to 100kg. The change is most about travel distance per charge.

My understanding is that it's not a China thing, but every airport security forbids large lithium to be brought on the plane whether as carry on or checked bags. The battery inside an e scooter is definitely larger than the allowed capacity. Your best bet is probably to ship by boat. But, check with the airlines to be sure I think each has own rule as well.
