PSA for Capital One - MAJOR DATA BREACH

I haven't received anything from Capital One yet, but this is all over the news. I thought I would share it in the event anyone needs to take precautions.

(I am not sure where to post this, so Mods, feel free to move it to the right forum.)

New York (CNN Business)
"In one of the biggest-ever data breaches, a hacker gained access to more than 100 million Capital One customers' accounts and credit card applications earlier this year.

Paige Thompson is accused of breaking into a Capital One server and gaining access to 140,000 Social Security numbers, 1 million Canadian Social Insurance numbers and 80,000 bank account numbers, in addition to an undisclosed number of people's names, addresses, credit scores, credit limits, balances, and other information, according to the bank and the US Department of Justice."...

I did a search and couldn't find any hits for this. Just alerting everyone since this is a pretty big deal. Potentially 100 million people affected.

Not as big as the Equifax breach, but another massive one.

First equifax and now capital one, Jesus. These companies need to start being held accountable for stuff like this and not just offer $125 as compensation for mishandling our data.

Hmmm....always wondered about the irony\efficacy of signing up for credit monitoring where you give them your info so they can monitor.,,,Who checks that the monitors are not hacked\incompetent fools themselves?

They've already got ALL of your information.. And gave it away because security isn't their priority. Security costs money...
