Note these cameras are quite old already and the line is abandoned so don't expect any support. Other than that they are still pretty capable and I've always wanted an AW-1. The thought of a mirrorless underwater camera with a 1" sensor was always appealing to me.

Outside of not having image stabilization, will the images from the S1 be much better than an iPhone - like the 7Plus?

Impulse buy range at $99 and I love that red color! Just want to be taking great pics of my kids. Don't ever pull out my SLR really.

I always get tempted when these nice camera deals pop up but would always have to reassess how often would I use it vs the camera on my phone. Phone cameras have come a long way so my DSLR continues to collect more and more dust.

Absolutely. I would see this as something I can leave on the counter and grab when we go outside to play or on a walk.

Would this give significantly better photos? I know one thing I would be missing would be the Live Photos that my daughter always tells me to play.

I miss the Nikon 1 series. My Nikon 1 J4 is still going strong, and I still enjoy using it (esp. with the 10-100 lens).

Sure, the iPhone takes the majority of my photos these days (thx, portrait mode). But for times when I need any kind of zoom, there's just no substitute for real glass.

I've been thinking about downsizing to a mirrorless from a Canon 60d. Would this be a decent way to go?

So without that lens, do you think you'd ever use it? How do the photos compare to your iPhone ones?

Got a great deal 4 years ago on the original V1 with 3 lens and SB7 flash for 400.00. Was a trade in that was 2799.00 the year before. Was a nice camera, even with the small 1 inch sensor (2.7 of a full frame 35mm). Even mounted a 500mm CAT, 1350mm effect range. Lol, got 550.00 on craigslist a year later. But ever under 300 the V3 is too much. But the 99.00 S1 is a nice deal. Lens is a 30mm to 75mm range. Great vacation camera with a nice 1 inch sensor. Will beat any iPhone or Samsung smartphone camera.

Great question. With just a standard 3x zoom (as here), probably not.

The picture quality difference may not be that noticeable for "most people" ... but most photographers will see images are definitely crisper on the Nikon.

Plus, you get get the other mirrorless benefits: +50% more pixels, interchangeable lenses, tilting screen (V3), hot shoe (V3), etc.

Thanks for the input! I was looking at the cheap S1. I love that red, but then I notice that the review I was reading was from 2013. The year my almost 6yo was born!

Modern flagship phones have made these almost completely obsolete. I don't want to sound like I'm discounting them just to make myself feel better - its the truth.
A Samsung Galaxy S10+ with its three rear lenses can go wider and just as telephoto as this system (once cropped with its higher MP count). While shooting high speed or 4k video, being easier to carry and waterproof (conflicting reports on just how much though).

Seeing the $99 price makes a deal hunters nose itch, but this product is entirely dead for most people. Even filthy casuals.

That said the W1 is the cheapest option a regular person can get to having DSLR type images underwater without dropping serious money on a waterproof case for their DSLR. There are of course waterproof cameras and GoPros, they give you "snap shots" and make it very hard to make artistic compositions underwater since the F-Stop is usually constant - not allowing much difference between foreground and background.

Thank you. That's exactly what I needed to hear. Too bad the red is so pretty though!
