If the back cover is opened by the consumer for any reason (upgrade or replace a part) LG voids the warranty. Confirmed by 2 CSRs. Just an FYI!

I pulled the trigger as well. Will price match in the store on August 7 when the coupon goes live.
Can we price match over the phone?

I bought it at the store and they said to come back with receipt once the promo goes into effect and then will give the credit the difference. Not sure about phone. Give them a call.

Not sure if buyers remorse is kicking in... Just video watching and 5 tab browsing was running the fan frequently...

Those slim MSI i7 9th gens seem more tempting now. Don't care about the weight until less than 5 lbs. Will take a hit with battery life maybe.

Suggestions?

Planning to return mine as well since LG customer service confirmed that once the back cover is opened it voids all warranty. Their "advice" for consumer is to wait until the warranty expires to proceed with upgrade....Such a nice machine but unfortunate policies!

I find this hard to believe. Why provide additional slots for memory/SSD if the customer cant use them? I already opened and upgraded and it would be near impossible to tell. My guess is that you received a reply from an uneducated CSR.

I highly doubt it, I received the same message while chatting with another CSR. Let me know if you contacted them and received any contradicting reply.

Reply to Your Inquiry
Hi RAMAKA02, we appreciate that you have taken the time to send us a message with regard to your LG 17Z990-R Gram laptop. I am more than glad to assist you today.

In response to this, yes, it is true that opening the back cover of the unit and upgrading the RAM or SSD will void its warranty. Normally, we are recommending the customer to upgrade the unit after the warranty expires. Thank you, RAMAKA02. Have a great day!

I hope this information has been helpful in addressing this matter. Should you have any further inquiries or clarifications, please do let us know and we'll be glad to help out. You may contact us again via Email, Live Chat, or Phone by calling 1-800-243-0000.

Thank you for contacting LG.

Sincerely yours,
Belle

I think that policy is illegal. I'm still not spending $1150 on a 3lb 17 inch laptop when I can get a 4.6lb one for $500.

What 17" laptop is 4.6lbs with these specs for $500?

I have not seen it at any B&M Costcos, but it does say this at the bottom of the online ad: "Item may be available in your local warehouse, prices may vary."
