Looks like it stacks with the promo from this thread:
https://slickdeals.net/f/13272709-thermapen-mk4-any-color-79-2
so you should be able to get any color for $71.31 shipped. Smilie

15% off code seems to apply to other MK4 colors. And appears to stack with the $79.20 price from the posting earlier today.

I ordered a green unit: combined discount brought the total (before $3.00 shipping and tax) to $67.32.

This is the best deal. $67.32 is the absolute lowest price. The only way to make the deal better is to use the pay with PayPal option with a linked Discover card for 5% cash back.

Is this markedly better than my 7 year old CDN DTQ450X?

Yes, this has faster response time, support for higher temps (yours only goes up to 450F), a higher quality thermocouple, folds for storage, has a backlight, and appears to be more reliable (based on user experiences online).

Is this that much better than the $15-20 ones on Amazon?

This is a great thermometer. Fast and accurate. Probably best in class. However, I personally use a Lavatools Javelin Pro (I previously had the Javelin) and I think it has nearly the same features for almost half the price. From a value perspective it is better, but certainly the Thermoworks is the standard.

I will say the Lavatools Javelin I have did end up getting a bubble on the screen after a few years but it is still very usable.

Solid deal - and the discount code works for accessories like the silicone boot with magnet. Thanks OP!

I'm happy with the Javelin Pro that I also own, but been wanting to get one of these too.

At this price it's only ~$10 more than the lavatools one according to Amazon. Still seems like quite a lot to spend on a thermometer. I have a gorilla grills smoker that has a good probe and a Weber Bluetooth one (it's terrible) and was hoping to jump on something here but I can't justify this amount for a thermometer when the old-school circular non-digital ones are a couple bucks at my grocery store. I have had a few beers tho so if someone can talk me into it, now's the time! 😀

I own both. The Javelin is a great unit if you get one that works and stays working. Seems their quality has decreased looking at online reviews. My first Javelin still works but has been given to a family member when I upgraded to the Thermapen. The backlight is really nice as well.
