Get a tm-ac1900 and mod it with stock firmware or merlin following this guide. Right here:https://www.bayareatechpros.com/ac1900-to-ac68u/

Same hardeare as rt-ac1900 and u can find tm-ac1900 for as low as 40$-50

Thanks, the router I am using now is like this. Just curious, thought you can get RT-AC1900 for ~$60

Depends on who is using it. If you have any knowledge of routers, go for the ac-68u or the tmobile one/ flash it. If it's for a less tech-savvy relative, give them this one and enjoy your piece of mind.

It's not too bad the first takes a bit if ur unfamiliar with putty and commands but I've flashed 4 or 5 successfully it's very much worth it.

I'm not disagreeing about the difficulty, more about the fact the firmware needs to be updated to keep up with security issues.

Plus Asus broke update compatibility of the t mobile one once.

Yeah I mean once u clear the md5 partition it is basically a ac68u no traces of tmobile bits other than the aesthetic. If u don't clear that it will flash back to the tmobile firmware so that is the most important step.
