Some anecdote: out if the 6 pack that I bought two years ago, all have failed.

The 2700k bulbs are on sale too, if you're into that sort of thing

I have these since 3 years and they work nicely with my first gen wink hub. One of the 3 bulbs has gone into always on mode i.e. it never turns turns off. If I turn them off the one goes to 5% brightness but doesn't turn off. The other two turn off normally.

Overall they are great at this price point. I bought them at 14$ each 3 years ago.still working.

I'm also getting a 30% off coupon that appears on the product page. Applies to either the single pack or the six pack of bulbs. Coupon appears as a check-box. Coupon works in addition to the potential 5% discount for S&S. For the six pack, both discounts make for a total of $28.09 (before tax).

The OP says it's zigbee so it will need some kind of hub or usb receiver.

Yeah, these bulbs communicate via Zigbee so they need a hub like SmartThings, Wink.

Would these still be dimmable even with an ordinary lamp?

Hue hub works too but can be a pain to get set up initially.

I don't have an hub. Is it worth investing in one right now when most of the smart world is moving towards direct control with echo or Google home products?

it depends what you're trying to accomplish. If you just want to turn a few bulbs on and off Google home is fine if you have larger aspirations I would definitely recommend getting a hub it gives you a lot more flexibility and adaptability and you can add much more complex routines. I'd recommend hubitat right now on their website it's only 79 bucks and is 100% local. Insteon and wink are both pretty much dead no new development in a long time. Check the forums for each hub and see what you think. SmartThings is good but it's cloud dependent so there's that
