You no longer get network priority on the new plans and HD video is an extra $20 for 720p. You're effectively a TracFone customer now. In that sense, Total Wireless has better rates on Verizon. These changes are pretty bad, I expect some churn.

I agree the changes are bad overall. I'm not surprised though. Giving out free plans wasn't sustainable. I mostly posted it for the niche group that will benefit with the new 3 & 10 GB Plans and to give others a heads-up.

Xfinity Mobile vs. Total Wireless vs. whoever depends on your situation & usage. If you're already an Xfinity customer, up to 3 GB of data is still a pretty good deal for individuals and up to 10 GB of data is probably a good deal for family plans (depending on the number of lines and amount of data).

Xfinity mobile customers before today are not eligible for the new 3gb and 10gb plans yet. It's supposed to be coming, but no date given.

Why would anyone get the 10 gig plan at $60 when unlimited is $45?

Shared data for 10 GB, up to five lines

$45 unlimited is per line, no sharing.

I'm surprised it's not available yet, but it'll be a while before it matters to me. According to this report [bestmvno.com], current customers should be able to switch to the 2nd Generation plan. It doesn't say when though. "If you're a current customer on an existing First Generation plan, and are not happy about the new plan changes you'll be grandfathered in and get to keep your plan. However, if you decide to switch to a Second Generation plan, there is no turning back."

Yup grandfather people better watch out before choosing the 3GB and 10GB option, you will be locked into those rates, no going back to the per GB again.

Say you choose 3GB and stay under 2GB that period. That would be $24 under the old plan vs $30 new.

I'm glad I got in when I did. They've actually been a great service for me, even comped me on data overages my first billing cycle (18 months ago though). I then learned how to lock down data usage on my phone and have been paying under $16 / month since then, taxes and all.

Also their international rates were super cheap. I may not need that again for many years but it was nice to not have to deal with temporary sim cards when traveling out of the US last year. Hmm... Can't access rates on the new website, hope they are as good as before for those who need that.

Sharing 5 lines, while keeping data usage under control, would be the equivalent of $12 / month for 2gb. Not bad for those who can swing it.

For accounts opened after 7/31/19, with By the Gig lines, a minimum $12.00 charge applies per month, regardless of data usage.

I am glad that I didn't cancel my plan. I got the phone for $1 and pay less than $3 every month to have a back up phone. It was very helpful during a 4 day power outage, but otherwise I don't use it. For less than I pay in 1 month for my normal plan (cheapest option on Virgin) I get peace of mind for a year.

I love being grandfathered in to cheap phone plans.

So if I get this for a family of 4, it's $60 total plus tax? Do we know what overages will be? Some months we might go over by a few gigs.

Yeah, my reasoning exactly for getting Total. Need to leave Sprint ASAP and nothing else really works well in Southeast Michigan.

But this may work in six months' time when my DirecTV/AT&T service goes bye-bye and I am forced to get Xfinity broadband as there are no other alternatives. But not before that - paying the access fee is ridiculous.

Yes, "If you go over your chosen amount, just keep using data at an additional $12/GB"
