Make sure you have an adequately powered doorbell transformer before installing this. This will ensure proper performance and help preserve the life of the doorbell's (mostly) irreplaceable internal battery.

Your transformer (which is probably mounted next to your breaker box) may be stamped with the voltage. Or you can test it with a voltmeter. I jumped on that crazy deal before prime day and didn't bother testing it until I went to install it (you have to cut power to install it). If it's not good enough you can get a better one for $15 or so at a home improvement store.

A nice feature of the app is you can check doorbell health and it'll tell you if the voltage is okay.

I've been through two of these units and they finally stopped giving me replacements. The first unit just stopped working proper and they replaced it and threw in a Wi-Fi extender/wireless chime , just recently that one died because the button stopped working.

No replacement this time only a gift certificate towards a new unit.

I'm thinking our house being oriented towards the sunrise and most of the day over time kills these. Just my .02.

As genaldar said, the #1 place to find your transformer is mounted to your electrical box. You sometimes also see them mounted in the garage, in any sort of HVAC or utility room, or where your cable to telephone lines come into your house. They really can be anywhere though, so keep an eye out. I installed a video doorbell for a friend of mine and we found his in a random electrical box of a light fixture in the basement.

On the outside of the transformer is stamped its voltage. Many doorbells are only 10VA or 15VA. For this, you want at least a 30VA transformer. This [amazon.com] would be a good choice - via Amazon.

Remember Ring gave the police access to the Ring cloud storage so they could potentially be monitoring you without your consent. Just dont commit any crimes in front of your snitch door bell.

I bought mine on ebay for slightly cheaper than this deal. One potential "issue" is that in order to make a theft claim, you have to buy it from an "authorized dealer" of which ebay is not. Some may be ok paying more for piece of mind. I'll just hope no one vandalizes or steals mine.
