This is much cheaper than ubiquiti and has many of the same features. Yes you need their controller for the roaming feature. However, for a gen 2 access point, this is about the best deal I could find.

Do you need to buy a separate controller hardware for this? Can i run the controller on any desktop or in the cloud?

There is a Windows controller and I think Linux as well. Cloud access once you set that up. They offer a hardware option as well.

I have EAP245 from Prime. Is it worth $25 more than this? It's still in box.

I have answers. Firstly, you don't NEED the controller, but it is required for certain features, namely the roaming capabilities (with >1 AP) and captive portal (the sign-in for wifi like at hotels).

As an alternative there's a web UI on the AP itself that lets you control actually quite a bit, VLAN, QOS, SSID, etc.

As far as the 245 being better... on the 2.4GHz band, they're exactly the same. The 5GHz band has more bandwidth possible, however, I seem to be maxing out my cell phone with the 225. I think you also need to think about how much coverage area (basically compare 2x225 @ $90 vs the 245 @ $70 each. Totally up to each individual's discretion. I had considered at 225 upstairs and a 245 downstairs, but overall I think one 225 on the ground floor centrally placed might do the trick for my 2400 sq ft 2-story home.

I have had one for about 6 mo and have had no issues whatsoever. I am not using the controller and setup was really easy.

I have had 2 of these for over a year and couldn't be happier. Replaced an old Asus N900 consumer router. Bulletproof WiFi. Now if only my Spectrum service was better....junk modems.

The OP is a EAP225_V3 not the referenced EAP245.

That said, I love how easy either is to setup & expand your range.

All good, myself I was basically waiting for either one to get a discount hence the "or". Guess it's dead now. The manufacturer link and the 1350 description is also correct. I'll be more clear next time.

Not trying to be a dick but this was my corporate america reflex in action: I deal with enough ambiguity & a lot of my time is spent level setting - ie make sure everyone starts under the same context.
