No this is not artificial. Yes it is full array local dimming which is the next best thing to OLED and gives you the better picture quality over edge lighting. And not all local dimming TV's have the "blob" as you call it, just ones with not good quality control like this TV can have.

I don't know much about Rakuten in terms of customer service, but Google Express is generally good about taking care of you if their vendor screws you over.

I think most major companies would make good on a vendor issue, but the returns/exchange process from any of these online retailers for an item this cumbersome is what I would want to know about before buying. I've heard people say that banding issues were solved in recent iterations of this model TV, but if one did receive a "defective" unit, I want to know that the company I purchased from would be helpful in the matter.

My only concern would be that the coupon says $60 Max so your final price may be higher than what is listed at check out

One perk for me was that there was no sales tax in CA!

Will you personally check my TV for banding and any other abnormalities before shipping it to me? Wink

Keep in mind these are very possibly open box returns that failed the panel lottery.

Notice the "contrast control zones" feature listed. This is likely full array local dimming, which TV companies use to artificially increase contrast ratios by turning on and off different parts of the backlight. This leads to very strange looking light blobs in a fixed pattern when something bright moves across a dark screen.
