Fwiw I owned two c434s and returned both after coming to the conclusion that there's a running "defect" (open to interpretation) on the entire model line. Specifically DSE, dirty screen effect.

If you ever owned a cheap lcd TV, you may be familiar. Basically the backlighting is so not uniform, the screen looks dirty with lots of micro dark patches. Mostly noticeable on light backgrounds (ie most websites).

Other things to consider is that the backlight on the keys is pretty much useless (I could have lived with it though) and the screen hue skews very yellow (most noticeable in night mode).

Otherwise, build quality is amazing design is beautiful. Trackpad feels cheap, really odd design choice considering the rest of the laptop.

If you're coming from a c302 like me, this is not the same weight and size class. Considerably heavier (for a chromebook) and not as svelte as the c302.

If it just wasn't for that screen... You may not be as sensitive to it, but for me once I saw it I couldn't unsee it. I would rather have a stuck pixel than DSE.

I'm surprised none of the "professional" reviewers picked up on this. Goes to show how useless one shot reviews are.

If you can live with the slightly larger size, get this hp. It's a direct competitor and 200 less at this price. Better screen, better keyboard, better trackpad.

Great price. Very tempted to buy, but I think I'll wait for the Asus C434, since it's the same size screen but lighter and smaller.

I plan to use it for long-term travel (couple years)

the c434 is out, are you saying you'll wait until it drops to this price? I think it will be awhile for that to happen, on sale the 4GB version is currently $529

I would say $349 for this chromebook is a great deal provided chromeos suits a person's needs.

The issue for me is size and weight. I'm selling everything I own except what fits in 1 suitcase and 1 backpack and traveling the world
