With the Archer A7 router, this creates a seamless mesh network to extend your wireless network without requiring a separate SSID/Network name to have to connect to within your home.

I usually see this at $50 on Amazon. First time I've seen it on sale for this price.

Does this work any different than a standard extender? I have the Archer A7, so is there an advantage to using this over something like: https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Wi-Fi-Range-Extender-EX3700/dp/B00R92CL5E/ [amazon.com] ??

The RE300 is OneMesh compatible which is different (and better, IMO) than an extender in this way:
- An "extender" will take your network name "MyWifi" and create a new SSID named "MyWifi_2GEXT" which you will then have to connect to manually on each device in areas connecting to your extender.
- A mesh system (such as the RE300 with an Archer A7) will use the same network SSID "MyWifi" and all your devices can roam freely within your home without needing to change networks at all.

Far more convenient to set up and smoother connection when streaming movies in one room and moving to another room without dropping the connection to reconnect to the extender.
